Vancouver Island's east coast in the central island includes several population centres, the largest of which is Campbell River BC. The City of Courtenay and Comox are very close by to each other and together form an economic centre although they are separate civically.

Campbell River BC is the largest economic centre in the north island and situated on the Island's east coast. Named for the river that flows through Elk Falls Provincial Park to the ocean, the Campbell River's source drains from John Hart Lake which in turn is sourced from Campbell Lake and Upper Campbell Lake.

Courtenay BC is a city on the east coast, with a population of approximately 22,500 people. The city is located within the K'omoks First Nation traditional lands, from which the name Comox on the island is derived. Attractions in Courtenay aside from the fabulous Pacific Ocean include the Courtenay and District Museum and Palaeontology Center, the Comox Valley Art Gallery and Sid Williams Theatre.
